Joyce Loberg

Joyce Elaine Loberg, age 81, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes on Friday, July 10, 2015. Joyce Elaine Loberg was born July 1, 1934, at home in rural Fergus Falls, MN, to Orvin and Hannah (Anderson) Furgeson. She was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. At the age of 5, the family made their home on a farm south of Underwood, MN. The family attended Sverdrup Lutheran Church. Joyce went to school in Underwood. She was very active in the band and enjoyed playing piano, french horn and the accordion. She was a member of the 4-H Club for 9 years. She graduated from Underwood High School with the class of 1952. After graduation, Joyce worked at the Fergus Falls Hospital, Airline Café and the Bus Depot. She married Peter Loberg in Sisseton, SD, on November 23, 1956. The family lived in Alexandria, MN, Willmar, MN and Rosemount, MN, before making their home in Detroit Lakes in 1968. In Detroit Lakes, Joyce worked at the Holland Best Western for 8 years, and then cleaned houses and apartments for 22 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes for many years as well as the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. Joyce loved to watch the birds that frequented the many feeders she had in her yard. She was an avid cook and baker. Her family will miss her home-made cinnamon rolls that she prepared and baked from scratch. She enjoyed many friendships and the ladies in the group traveled around the area playing bingo, and took the occasional trip to Mahnomen where they enjoyed bingo and other games. She also enjoyed rummage sales and during her younger years, went to many. Her greatest love was her family and she truly enjoyed the time she spent with them. She endured hunting trips with family where she mostly enjoyed the scenery and quality time it offered her with those she cherished. She will be dearly missed. Joyce is survived by 2 sons: Douglas (Julie) of Detroit Lakes and Daniel (Theresa) of Lake Park; daughter, Dana (Robin) Bergen of Frazee, MN; son-in-law, Scott Lewis; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Phyllis Bergem of Underwood, MN; along with many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Peter in 2003; daughter, Cindy in 2014; son, Curtis in 2015; and 2 brothers: Sherman and Bud.
