Juliette Gunderson

October 24, 1917 — April 7, 2009

Juliette C. Gunderson, 91, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 14 at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes with Reverend Wade Dutton, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Friends may call 5:00 – 8:00 PM Monday, April 13 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and at the church one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.


Juliette Clair Omundson was born October 24, 1917 in Maple Creek, Sask., Canada to Stephen and Anne (Hoghoug) Omundson. While a child, she moved with her family to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She is a 1936 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. Juliette was united in marriage with Magnus “Mox” Gunderson, May 8, 1943 in Detroit Lakes. She was a well known organist and , in addition to being the organist at First Lutheran Church, played for many social events in the Detroit Lakes area during a career that spanned 63 years. Mox died May 25, 1970.


Juliette enjoyed collecting chickens, playing cards, sing-alongs, quilting, and helping her son, Bill, with estate sales.


Survivors include her sons, David and his wife Betty of Fargo, ND, Mark, Michael and his wife Gail all of Detroit Lakes; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Johnson of Detroit Lakes and Anne Sauer and her husband Jack of Lakeside, MT. In addition to her husband, Mox, she was preceded in death by sons, Dan and Bill; brothers, David “Bud”, Bert; sisters, Grace Knudsvig, Eleanor Thompson and Marcia Omundson.
