Karen Kath

Karen Suzanne (Chelmo) Kath, age 61, of Detroit Lakes, passed away on Tuesday, July 28 at Vibra Health in Fargo, ND, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 22 at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service. Karen was born on August 3, 1953 to James (Nate) and Juanita (Shore) Chelmo in Minneapolis. She grew up in Minneapolis and surrounding suburbs and graduated high school in 1971. She married in 1972 gave birth to two wonderful sons. She left the twin cities after her divorce and moved to Detroit Lakes over twenty years ago. In 1998, she graduated from MState. Over the years she worked most notably at Becker County Courthouse, the Vo-Tech, cleaning houses, AmericInn, and Central Market. Karen loved not only her family and friends but her dog Laci Susie, birds and flowers. She is survived by her two sons, Jesse Kath and Jeremy (Stephanie) Giesen-Kath, six grandchildren, her parents Nate and Nita Chelmo, siblings; Jim, Marie Luby, Bill (Ellen), Dave (Gail), Patti Thorson, Sharon (Steve) Dahring, sister-in-law Pat Chelmo and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her brother Tom Chelmo and her beloved dog, Sami. Her Grandparents, Claude and Christine Shore, Joseph Chelmo, Harriet Chelmo and Step Grandma Thelma Chelmo.
