Karen Maynard

Karen I. Maynard, 68, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, January 17, 2011 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. Funeral Services for Karen will be held Friday, January 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM in Grace Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at David Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will also continue one hour prior at the church on Friday. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in the spring. Karen was born on February 20, 1942 to Oscar and Dorothea (Schultz) Bien in Hillhead, SD. Karen grew up and attended country school in Shoreham, rural Detroit Lakes and was part of the first graduating class out of Detroit Lakes Public High School. After school she worked at the Erie Jr., Swifts Turkey Processing Plant and also as a waitress and bartender at the Northside. She later worked at Grover Lindberg's and finished her career at St. Mary's Essentia Health retiring in 2009. Karen loved crocheting and sewing. She made most of her husband and children's clothing throughout the years. Her western shirts became popular with their friends and often sold them around the lakes area. She enjoyed going to rummage sales, collecting santa's and watching her daily soap opera "The Young And The Restless". She often would get together with her sisters in a daily outing that consisted of shopping, coffee and chatting the afternoon away. She cherished time with family and family events were very dear to her. Karen also had a forte for baking, with pies being her specialty. Karen will be remembered and missed by her children: Kevin (Judy) Maynard of Detroit Lakes, Vikki Jensen (Frank Andersen) of Waubun, MN, Mark Maynard (Rhonda Jones) of Detroit Lakes and Kristie (Rich) Lahren of West Fargo. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild along with six sisters and two brothers: Evonne Meyhoff of Audubon, MN, Caredell Richter of Detroit Lakes, Arlow (Cathy) Bien of Bismarck, ND, Warren (Kathleen) Bien of Bismarck, ND, Janet (Paul) Cincush of Detroit Lakes, Ranae Sexton of Detroit Lakes, Diane (Dan) Rennie of Ironton, Missouri and Corrine Munson of St. Paul, MN along with many special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Dorothea, husband Victor, infant brother Donald and son in law Darrell Wilkins.
