Kathryn Marie Lynch was born February 20, 1910 in Staples, MN to Dorse and Doris (Mertens) Lynch. She attended schools in Staples and Sebeka, MN and later attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN. Kathryn was united in marriage to Robert L. Pettit September 9, 1931 in Verndale, MN. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and she taught in Audubon, MN and, for 18 years, at Washington Elementary School in Detroit Lakes. She retired in 1974. Robert died later that same year. Kathryn moved to Winchester on Washington in 2001, to Lincoln Park and recently to Oak Crossing.
Kathryn enjoyed visiting with her former students, flowers, and mashed potatoes & gravy. She was active in Holy Rosary Church, Catholic Daughters, the “Friday Coffee Group”, Retired Teachers, the garden club and the Detroit Lakes Library Club. She also cherished the years she was able to travel to California and Florida during the winter months.
Kathryn’s survivors include three sons, Robert Lynn and his wife Helene’ of Perham, MN, Richard James and his wife Lynn of Detroit Lakes, John Charles and his wife Marian of Prescott, AZ; one daughter, Kay Marie and her husband Robert LeVasseur of of Duluth, MN; 15 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, Lynn (Marilyn) Lynch of Alexandria, MN. In addition to her husband, Bob, Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters.
