Kay Lorraine (Dahl) Mickelson, age 74, Detroit Lakes, passed away Thursday evening, November 9, 2023 at Oak Crossing where she had been residing the last 7 years.
Kay was born on May 19, 1949, in Detroit Lakes, a daughter of the late Clarence and Georgia Dahl. Kay was wed to Michael Mickelson on November 25, 1967 and they made their home in Detroit Lakes. Due to Mike’s employment, in earlier years, the couple lived two years in Nekoosa, WI and two years in New Ulm, MN. Kay worked various jobs in the area. She owned and operated the Watermelon Seed, worked at the Sheriff’s Department and the 59er Gas Station Store for 24 years. She owned and operated the 59er Diner and KT’s Grill in Detroit Lakes.
Kay loved camping, gardening, horseback riding, animals, cooking and spending time with family and friends.
Kay is survived by her brother, Rickey (Karen) Dahl of Vergas, MN, Patty (Lyle) Rudolph of Detroit Lakes, MN, Michael (Laurie) Cole of Lake George, MN and Michelle (Mike) Merritt of Dorset, OH, as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her husband, Michael.
A memorial gathering for Kay will be held Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10 to 11 AM at BAKKE LUTHERAN CHURCH. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Kim Schnitzer officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Final rest will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
