In loving memory of Larry Leighton Peterson
Larry Leighton Peterson, age 80, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully on April 16th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home with the compassionate care of Red River Valley Hospice.
Larry was born May 26th, 1944, in Detroit Lakes, MN to William and Vergil Peterson. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes. On April 18th, 1964, he married the love of his life, Dorothy.
Together they built a beautiful family, welcoming four children into their lives. Larry and Dorothy were reunited just before their 61st Wedding Anniversary.
Larry was a very compassionate and hardworking man in his teenage years he worked on his Grandparents farm and then worked for Madison Silos traveling the country building silos. He also worked for Hartman's hide and fur and did handyman work on the weekends for other people. He started working for Standex air distribution in 1968 working in production for 29 years and 10 years in management before retiring in 2007.
Larry was truly a man of the outdoors. He had a love for fishing and hunting and an appreciation for nature. He loved going for drives and looking at nature's beauty, Larry had a passion for woodworking and made many cherished furniture pieces for his family and people would commission him to make things for them. He also enjoys making fish decoys and gardening. But most of all, he adored his grandchildren, they made his life complete. Larry leaves behind a legacy of love. Vicky Carrier of Detroit Lakes. Eight grandchildren, Amber, Lacey, Sasha, Trent, Michael, Matthew, Austin and Avery and seven great grandchildren with one more on the way.
Preceding his death are his parents, his wife Dorothy and one brother, Wendell Peterson.
Memorial services to celebrate Larry's remarkable life will be held at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, on Monday, April 28, 2025, at 12 PM, with visitation one hour prior. A lunch will follow, along with interment at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
As we remember Larry, let us celebrate a life lived with passion, love, and kindness. His spirit will forever remain in all of the hearts of all that knew him.
