LaVerne Arthur Sr

LaVerne C. Arthur, 56, Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at Sanford Health, Fargo. Memorial Service for LaVerne will be held Tuesday, August 11 at 2PM in Old Pine Point School, Ponsford. Visitation will be held Monday, August 10 from 5PM-7PM at David Donehower Funeral Home and also one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Interment will be held in Breck Memorial Episcopal Cemetery in Ponsford. LaVerne Charles Arthur was born February 25, 1959 in Minneapolis, MN to Donald and Katherine (Arthur) Lord. He was raised and educated in Ponsford and attended Park Rapids High School. After high school he attended Detroit Lakes Vo-Tech upon graduation LaVerne enlisted in the Navy. Following his honorable discharge he lived in Park Rapids and moved back to Ponsford where he owned and operated a bar. In 1978 he met Patsy Gordon and three years later they were united in marriage. After marriage they resided in Detroit Lakes, Ottertail and Moorhead. Throughout his working career LaVerne worked in masonry, sales, owned a bar, operated a construction business and did auto body work. The last 20 years of his career was spent as a welder at Mid America Steel. LaVerne retired in 2005. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was always up for long road trips, an occasional trip to the casino and visiting family and friends. Most importantly he loved spending time at home with family, especially with his special grandson, David Jr. LaVerne will be deeply missed by his entire family. He was a big man with an even bigger heart.

LaVerne is survived by his wife, Patsy of Moorhead, two daughters: Tonya Arthur of Moorhead and Lisa McConnel of South Dakota and two sons: Verne Jr of Fargo and Dave of Moorhead along with 10 grandchildren. He is also survived by three brothers: Marcus, Tony and Trevio "Chulo" along with five sisters: Sally, Juanita, Carmen, Linda and Charlene.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandfather: George "Popeye" Ellis and grandmother/mother: Hazel Arthur, infant daughter: Donna Marie, two uncles, one aunt and one grandson.
