Lawrence Person

L awrence Edger Person was born in Duluth, MN to Edwin and Hannah (Hanson) Person on September 9, 1920. He attended schools in Minneapolis, graduating from Edison High School in 1938. He attended the University of Minnesota, University of Maryland and the University of Omaha. In 1938, Larry joined the U.S. Army.


On March 7, 1942, he was united in marriage to Delores Marjorie Christianson in Trenton, New Jersey.


Larry served overseas in World War II and Korea and completed his military career at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, retiring in 1963 at the rank of Major. After military retirement, Larry moved to Munson Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN. and served with the Becker County Sheriff’s Department and as Chief of the Detroit Lakes Police Department.


Delores passed away November 25, 2001. Larry maintained his residence at Munson Lake and on January 18, 2003 was united in marriage to Jeanette Marie Wozniak. Larry enjoyed visiting with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling around the world and dancing.


Larry was a leader for Boy Scouts, Boys Club, and a fire arms safety instructor. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, VFW, American Legion, D.A.V. and Eagles. all in Detroit Lakes.


He is survived by his wife, Jeanette and his 8 children: Wayne (Judy) Person of Portland, OR; Bruce (Marilu) Person of Hillsboro, N.D.: Phillip (Connie) Person of Lacey, W.A.; Marilyn (James) Parsons of Leavenworth, KS. Patricia Johnson of Detroit Lakes: Dorothy Person of Lometa, TX. Elizabeth (Alan )Olson of Moorhead, MN. and Susan Nelson of Lakeville, MN.


Larry is also survived by 3 Step-Children; Francine (Scott) Olsen of Joliet, IL.; Marie (Dennis) Svendsen of Maplewood, MN. and Pat (Mark) Schneider of New Ulm, MN.


Larry was blessed with 27 Grandchildren, 29 Great-Grandchildren, 10 Step-Grandchildren and 14 step-Great-Grandchildren.


Larry was preceded in death by his first wife, Delores and his Brother, Norman Person.
