Leila Wokasch

Leila Elizabeth Wokasch, age 98, of Frazee, MN, passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Perham Memorial Hospital in Perham, MN. A funeral mass will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 25, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frazee, MN. A visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 24, at David Donehower Funeral Home, with a rosary and prayer service at 7:00 pm. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the funeral mass at the church on Wednesday. Leila was born on December 23, 1916, to Charles and Theresa (Gettis) Kapaun, in Minnehaha County near Sioux Falls, SD. She attended school in Humboldt, SD and graduated from Humboldt High School. After graduation, she moved to Frazee where she was united in marriage to Carl Wokasch on October 4, 1939 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Together they farmed in Evergreen Township until 1960, when they sold the farm and moved to Detroit Lakes. Carl passed away in 1979 and Leila continued to live in the house until 1989, then she then moved into the Pleasant View Apartments. In 2006, she entered into Frazee Assisted Living and in 2014 she moved to the Frazee Care Center, where she remained until her passing. Leila enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her great happiness. She spent much of her time volunteering at the Senior Center and was proud to have been nominated as volunteer of the year. Leila was active at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and devout in her faith as she prayed daily. Leila fancied playing cards and bingo and enjoyed trips to the casino. She loved needlework, whether crocheting or knitting. As a homemaker she was proud of her cooking, baking, and gardening and was good at it. Leila was very physically active even into her later years; she could often be seen walking about town. She liked to travel, and at 83 she visited Hawaii. She is survived by her children, Sister Julie Wokasch OSB of Spokane, WA, John (Elaine) Wokasch of Frazee, Ruth (LeRoy) Wegscheid of Ottertail, MN, and Kathleen Moody of Redwood Valley, CA; sisters, Eva Hanisch of Sioux Fall, SD, and Margaret Borah of Tuscon, AZ; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Theresa; her husband, Carl; brothers, Lawrence Kapaun, Ronald Kapaun, and Hollis Kapaun; sisters, Phyllis Raeder, and grace Roberts; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Wokasch; a grandson, Tim Wokasch; son's in law, Bill Cole , and Jim Moody.
