Leona J. Bisson was born May 12, 1934 in Walsh County near Forest River, North Dakota. She was raised and educated near Forest River. She moved to Chicago, IL, returning to Forest River. Leona was united in marriage to Seldon Bisson August 16, 1957 in Washington, D.C. They lived in Washington, D.C. until moving to the Detroit Lakes, MN area in 1965. During her working life, Leona was employed by Sunnyside Nursing Home in Lake Park, MN; Swift & Company in Detroit Lakes the Detroit Lakes Holiday Inn and West Central Turkey Processing in Pelican Rapids. Seldon died in 1993 and Leona retired in 1998.
Leona enjoyed playing BINGO, making rugs and her worship at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Survivors include 3 daughters: Brenda (Sanford) Beutner – Lake Park, MN; Barb (Jeff) Hanson – Detroit Lakes; Shellie (Kevin) Racer – Osage, MN; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother: Harry Hefta Jr - Forest River, ND and a sister: Anna Mae (Roger) DeVries – Battle Mountain, NV. In addition to her husband, Seldon, she was preceded in death by her parents: Harry and Amelia (Briskey) Hefta and a great grandson: Eric S. Hoopman.
