Linda Lee Johnson

Linda Lee (Gehrts) Johnson, 78, Detroit Lakes and formerly of Moorhead, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023 following a brief illness.

She was born in Pipestone, MN, on March 7, 1945, a daughter of the late Walter and Verna (Noterman) Gehrts.  Linda grew up in Fargo-Moorhead, and was a 1963 graduate of Shanley High School. Linda married Stephen Johnson on January 2, 1965, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Moorhead, and together they raised six children.

In addition to being a “mother extraordinaire”, and a doting grandmother, Linda was a longtime volunteer at Heirlooms Thrift & Gift in Fargo, which raised funds for Hospice of the Red River Valley.  She and her husband enjoyed 18 winters at a home they kept in Arizona, and went on several cruises with friends over the years.  She enjoyed summers in Detroit Lakes, and in earlier years, loved vacationing with her grandkids in Wisconsin Dells and other places where the family would rent a cottage.  Linda dearly loved her family and her many friends. She will be deeply missed.

Linda leaves her husband, Steve, of nearly 59 years; her children: Steve Johnson of Fargo, Jeffrey Scott (Kris) Johnson of Bismarck, Jennifer (Jim) Madla of Chicago, and Jim (Angela Zurn) Johnson of St. Paul; a sister, Helen Lindquist, her grandchildren: Kennedy, Kiefer, Macy, Maris, Stella, Adrian, Audrey and Marti, as well as several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, two sons: Robert and Joseph and a brother, Kurt Gehrts.

A Memorial visitation for Linda will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 12 noon to 1 PM at HOLY ROSARY CATHOLIC CHURCH (1043 Lake Avenue, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501).  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 PM with Fr. Chuck Huck officiating.  Final rest will be private.
