Linda Retz

Linda Lou Retz, age 58, of Lake Park, passed away on Saturday, June 27 at Essentia Health in Fargo. A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, July 10 at David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. A visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday July 3 at the funeral home, with a prayer service at 6:00 pm, and will continue one hour prior to the memorial service on July 10. Linda was born on November 27, 1956 to Leo and Mary (Nelson) Retz in Detroit Lakes. She attended country school and later Frazee Elementary. After school she went to work for Swifts and worked as a CNA for St. Mary's Oak Crossing Nursing Home. She also worked as a PCA at North Star Home Health in Ogema. She was married to Roland Hamlin on December 14, 1974. She remarried on October 3, 1987 to David Chilton. Linda went back to school in 1987 at the Minnesota Community and Technical College where she earned her culinary degree. From 2004 until 2009 she owned and operated the Callaway Café. Linda was an active foster parent throughout her life and fostered over 20 children. In 2015 she and Mike Gullard adopted four foster children. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed fishing, gardening, and her animals: goats and chickens. She especially loved caring for people and was affectionately called "The Mother of Richwood". She is survived by her children, Melissa (Nate) Cornish of Ulen, Richard (Heather) Hamlin of Lake Park, Andrew Hamlin of Detroit Lakes, Mathew Hamlin (Racheal) of Detroit Lakes, and Alicia (Joshua) Walker of Richwood; brothers, Leo (Cindy) Retz of Detroit Lakes, and David Retz of Richwood; sisters, Mary Ann (Gene) Miller of Frazee, Betty Jo (Bob) Gallard of Lake Park, and Ruthy (Joel) Beaupre of Detroit Lakes; 10 grandchildren, and her adopted children, Tressa, Kadynce, Chester, and Leo. She is preceded in death by her soulmate, David Chilton; and her parents, Leo and Mary Retz.
