Linda Spiesz

Linda Jean Spiesz, 73, of Lake Park, MN passed away at her home on Sunday, December 22, 2019.

Linda Jean Bekkerus was born on May 23, 1946 to Hilbert and Dorothy (Stanley) Bekkerus at Mrs. McDonald’s Home in Barnesville, MN.  Linda graduated from Barnesville High School with the class of 1964.  After graduating high school, Linda lived in Fridley and worked at Donaldson’s Department Store for a short time.  Linda had met the love of her life Gerald Spiesz closer to home and they married in January of 1965.  Their wonderful partnership lasted 55 years in which they made their home in rural Lake Park, MN.  Together they raised three children, Katherine Raatz of Elk River, MN, Kristopher (Deborah) Spiesz of Minneapolis, MN, and Elizabeth (Christopher) Boechler of Arthur, ND.

Linda loved to travel and had visited 40 states and 6 Canadian provinces.  She was an excellent navigator who was always ready to explore off the beaten path.  Aside from traveling, she enjoyed reading, gardening, quilting, and spending time with family and friends.

Linda worked at the Lake Park Café for a few years as a dishwasher and behind the scenes support for Cora.  Then when they were planning to spend a summer in Alaska, Linda started working at Sunnyside Nursing Home in the kitchen to help fund the adventure.  Linda continued working there on her return until her retirement.

Linda is survived by the family she adored and built her life around; her beloved husband Gerald; children, Katherine Raatz, Kristopher (Deborah) Spiesz, and Elizabeth (Christopher) Boechler; grandchildren Nathan Raatz, Ian (Kate) Raatz, Kaaren Spiesz and Kaia Spiesz; great grandchildren Carter and Maverick Raatz; sister Karen Hanson and brother Julian (Joyce) Bekkerus.

Preceding Linda in death were her parents; and sister Mary Martineau.
