Linda Wagendorf

August 27, 1943 — January 16, 2016

Linda Lee Wagendorf, 72, Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, January 16 at Vibra Hospital in Fargo. Memorial Services for Linda will be held Saturday, January 23 at 11AM in David Donehower Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday. Linda Lee Harmer was born to Don and Gladys Harmer on August 27, 1943. She attended all her school years in the Frazee school system, graduating from Frazee High School in 1961. She attended St. Cloud Beauty College for cosmetology and graduated in the fall of 1962. Linda married Jerry Wagendorf in 1962. Linda and Jerry made their home in Detroit Lakes for over 50 years. During her working career, Linda worked at several beauty shops in Detroit Lakes. She also worked at the Sears Catalog Store, Detroit Paint & Glass, Bergen Warehouse and retired after 24 years with the Detroit Lakes Police Department as a records clerk. Linda was a proud "Grandma" to her two grandsons: Joe and Chris Gjerde. Her grandsons were a very important part of her life. She and Jerry enjoyed following their sporting activities in Detroit Lakes and enjoyed taking their grandsons on their annual Memorial Day trip. Together they visited Mount Rushmore, Valley Fair, Duluth Harbor, Minnesota State Fair and Wisconsin Dells along with a few others. Linda was also proud to be "great-grandma" to Ethan, Lauren and Colter.

Linda was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eagles Ladies Auxiliary in Detroit Lakes for many years. As an active member of the Eagles Auxiliary, she served as president three times along with several other officer positions over the years. Travelling to the Eagles National Conventions in Kentucky, Tennessee and Las Vegas were special times for Linda and Jerry. They also enjoyed going on two cruises, one to the Virgin Islands and one to Alaska. After Linda retired, they took a much anticipated trip to Hawaii, a trip Linda always wanted to make. In her spare time, Linda enjoyed tending to her flower garden. She did ceramics for several years until she figured she better stop because friends were probably getting tired of receiving them as gifts! She got hooked on "word puzzles" and loved doing them any chance she had. Her family will miss seeing her at the kitchen counter working on her puzzles. Linda is survived by her husband Jerry of Detroit Lakes, one daughter: Wendy (Roger) Gjerde of Detroit Lakes, two grandsons: Joe (Erin) Gjerde of Vergas and Chris (Stacia) Gjerde of Detroit Lakes along with three great-grandchildren: Ethan, Lauren and Colter. In addition she is survived by one brother: Roger (Nancy) Harmer of Lumberton, TX, sisters-in-law: Angie Harmer of Detroit Lakes, Pat Coalwell of Dilworth, sister and brother-in-law: Charyl (Jeff) Hahn of Detroit Lakes and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, one brother: Donnie Harmer, mother and father-in-law: Harriet and John Wagendorf and one brother-in-law, Rolland Coalwell.
