Lloyd Varholdt

Lloyd Varholdt, 91, Detroit Lakes, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Essentia St. Mary’s-Detroit Lakes.

Lloyd was born on October 30, 1931, in rural Ottertail County, a son of the late Albert and Josie (Gulbraa) Varholdt.  He was baptized and confirmed at North Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids.  Lloyd married Betty (Braseth) on December 6, 1952 at Lebanon Lutheran Church and together they raised two children.

Lloyd worked in several professions throughout his lifetime, including in heating and air conditioning in Omaha, NE for 10 years.  He later worked for Precision Tools in Minneapolis for 15 years and was later the proprietor of 4-Corners in rural Detroit Lakes and the Loons Nest in Vergas.  He ran a hobby farm for 6 years and lived on Cotton Lake for 20 years.

Lloyd loved hunting, fishing and farming.  He bought and sold 14 homes as well as two businesses and a farm.  Lloyd could fix almost anything, and will never be forgotten.

Lloyd is survived by his wife, Betty, of over 70 years, his grandchildren: Amy (Scott) Kiehl of Fargo, ND and Robert Millner of Las Vegas, NV; great-grandchildren, Amanda Stone of Silverton, OR, Caden Kiehl of Fargo, ND, Dustin Kiehl of Fargo, ND, Angelina Millner of Cleveland, OH and Robert Millner of Cleveland, OH; and a great-great grandchild Michael Frazee of Silverton, OR.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents and both of his children; Jeanette Anderson and Glenn Varholdt.  He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Joseph (Carmen) Varholdt, Johan (Bernice) Varholdt and Mildred (Tony) Tuski.

Evening visitation for Lloyd will be held Tuesday, August 8, 2023 from 5 to 7 PM at DAVID-DONEHOWER FUNERAL HOME (609 US HWY 10 E., Detroit Lakes, MN 56501).  A prayer service will close out the evening at 7 PM, led by Chaplain Kurt Jacobson

Visitation continues Wednesday, August 9, 2023 from 10 to 10:45 AM at LUND LUTHERAN CHURCH (25231 CTY HWY 21, Detroit Lakes, MN 56501).  Funeral service will begin at 11 AM.  Interment held at Lund Lutheran Cemetery following the service.
