Loren Ross

Loren (Gene) E. Ross entered into eternal rest Thursday January 1, 2009 at Knapp Memorial Hospital, Weslaco, TX.  Funeral Services for Gene will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, January 12, 2009 at The Congregational Church of Detroit Lakes, United Church of Christ. Visitation will be held at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes on Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM with a Prayer Service starting at 4:00 PM. Visitation will also continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Loren Eugene Ross was born in Wheaton, MN to Archie and Ester (Kriesel) Ross on July 8, 1930. He was baptized in the Congregational Church in Tintah, MN. He served his country in Korea during the Korean conflict. In 1959, Gene married Margaret (Peggy) Nirschl at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ada, MN and made their home near Tintah. He moved his family to Wheaton, MN in 1967. In 1969 Gene purchased the Hardware Hank store in Wheaton, MN. He enjoyed working with the public and continued to, until due to his health, he had to retire. In April 2005, he and Peggy moved to Detroit Lakes, MN where he was able to do all the fishing he liked. Gene and Peggy wintered in Weslaco, TX. Gene loved to fish, hunt, play cards, play billiards, work with stained glass, and spend time with his family. He was active in the American Legion, the Shriners, the Masons, and was a member of the VFW. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Detroit Lakes.


Gene will be remembered and missed by his wife, Peggy; his three children, Gregory (Heather) Ross, Bemidji, MN, Susan (Kevin) Cote, Fargo, ND, Sharon Ross, Coronado, CA; his grandchildren, Carl Ross, Jennifer Ross, Alexis Ross, Ross Markey, Jordan Cote, Samantha Benesch, Lonnie Ras; great-grandchildren, Joseph Huffman, Isabelle Ross, Maya Benesch; two sisters, Ethel Mannerud and Doris Rich. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Ester Ross; three brothers, Orin Ross, Clinton Ross and Orman Ross; one sister, Muriel Trebil.
