Lorraine R. Andrews, 88, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Monday, September 29, 2014 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Lorraine Rose Bickel was born April 4, 1926 in Lakeview Township, Detroit Lakes, MN to Alfred and Frances (Dingman) Bickel. She was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes attending District #80 and later graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1943. In December of 1943, Lorraine was united in marriage to Terry Torson (also a 1943 graduate). To this union three children were born: Sharon, Diane and Tom. They made their home in Vergas, MN. In 1953, Terry died in a trucking accident which left Lorraine a young widow with three small children. On January 21, 1956, Lorraine was united in marriage to Marvin Andrews. They remained in Vergas until the summer of 1956, when they moved to Graceville, MN. To this union two children were born: Steven and Janet. They remained in Graceville until 1981 when they moved back to Detroit Lakes. Marvin passed away on September 20, 2008. Lorraine enjoyed volunteering her time until health problems forced her to slow down. She also enjoyed bowling, golf, playing bridge, crocheting and cooking. Over the years she made many afghans for graduations and church benefits. Her joy for cooking and baking was shared with many neighbors, family and friends throughout the years. Lorraine is survived by her five children: Sharon (Ron) Buntje of Albany, MN, Diane (Ron) Ritter of Morris, MN, Tom (Karen) Torson of Bethel, MN, Steve (Kay) Andrews of Eloy, AZ and Janet (Ross) Stark of Fargo, ND. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren along with eight special nieces and nephews along with their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother: Rose Bickel, 1st husband Terry and 2nd husband Marvin, one grandchild: Jamie Torson and one sister: Deloris Klinnert.
