Lou D. Larson, age 98, resident of Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Moorhead, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home of Detroit Lakes, surrounded by the love and care of family and nursing staff.
Lou was born on September 22, 1910 in Scribner, NE to Herman and Louise (Langemeier) Nieman. Her family moved to Perham, MN in 1912; where Lou graduated high school and later went on to attend Dakota Business College in Fargo. On May 30, 1935, she was united in marriage with Joe Larson. They enjoyed over 52 years of marriage before Joe passed away in October of 1987. Lou worked in several secretarial positions over the years, the last being at Minnesota State University – Moorhead, retiring in 1975. She was an avid bowler in the F-M area and especially enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, as well as golf and fishing. Her last bowling team members have been loyal, true friends and brought much joy with their visits during her years at Emmanuel.
Lou will be remembered and missed by one son, Don Larson of Detroit Lakes, two daughters: Darlene Olson of Rochester, MN and Renee (Larry) Bexell of Park Rapids, MN. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, four great - great grandchildren along with one sister Eleonore (George) Radtke of Fargo, ND. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe, son-in-law Marvin Olson, daughter-in-law Judi Larson along with four brothers and five sisters.
The family thanks and is forever grateful to the Emmanuel Nursing Home staff for their exceptional and loving care of Lou during her stay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley and the Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel Fund.
Funeral Services for Lou will be held Thursday, September 17 at 2:00 PM in Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel, 1415 Madison Ave, Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at Emmanuel Nursing Home Chapel. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Fargo at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 17, 2009.
