Lowell E. Glebe, 88, of Detroit Lakes, MN died Tuesday, February 10 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. The Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 14 at Lincoln Park Assisted Living in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in the spring. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Lincoln Park on Saturday.
Lowell Eldred Glebe was born September 5, 1920 in Richwood, MN, the third child of Ernest and Ellen (Lidstrom) Glebe. In 1942 he enlisted in the Air Force, traveling extensively and always taking time to write about his travels in letters to home. Lowell was proud to have served his country. Following his discharge in 1952, Lowell worked for Mitchell Chevrolet, LP Olson Chevrolet, Myron Motors and owned and operated, along with Norris Hoffman, the Pure Oil Service Station in Detroit Lakes for a number of years. Lowell was a highly respected mechanic at Nereson Chevrolet in Detroit Lakes for 37 years.
After his retirement from Nereson Chevrolet in 1983, Lowell was content to stick around home in Richwood where he spent endless hours working in his shop. Lowell had a love for animals and was known to take in stray cats in the neighborhood. He also enjoyed hunting, followed college and professional football closely, loved to visit and enjoyed Sunday meals with his sister, Alice.
In 2005 Lowell moved from his home in Richwood to Lincoln Park in Detroit Lakes where he lived until recently when his health made it necessary for him to move to Oak Crossing.
Lowell is survived by sisters, Alice Jeanette Nodsle of Detroit Lakes, Leila Vivian Glass of Carmichael, CA; nephews, Mike (Judy) Nodsle of Detroit Lakes, Ron (Kathy) Johnson of Walnut Creek, CA, Mark (Tona Rose) Johnson of Rancho Marieta, CA; niece, Aletta (Mike) Besse of Golden Valley, MN; two grand-nieces; one grand-nephew; and special friends, Kathy (John) Holland and Ann Hoffman of Detroit Lakes, Jean and Missy Hoffman of Minneapolis, Jean (Dave) Erickson of Duluth, MN, Elizabeth Clark of Georgia and Geri (Dale) McConachie of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest in 1960; mother, Ellen in 1982 and special friends March Hoffman in 2002 and her son, Dave Hoffman in 2008.
