Lucelia Smith

Lucelia G. Smith, 91, White Earth, MN, died Thursday, January 22 at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 26 at the old Pine Point School in Ponsford, MN, Mother Lisa Smith, officiating. Interment will be in Pine Point Township, MN. Friends may call from 5:00 PM Sunday, January 25 until the time of the service on Monday at the Old Pine Point School.


Lucelia Grace Smith was born January 19, 1918 in White Earth, MN to George and Sophie “Mindemoyahn” (Rock) Boswell. She was raised in Pine Point Township near Ponsford and attended school in Pine Point, the Flandreau (SD) Indian School and the White Earth (MN) Mission School. Lucelia was united in marriage to Steven Smith 1943. She then worked as a cook for logging camps in the Walker-Nevis area. Steven died in 1952. Lucelia moved to Minneapolis in the early 1950’s; to White Earth in 2000 and to St. Mary’s Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes in 2003.


Survivors include four sons, Duane Conklin of Everett, WA, Ed (Sandi) Smith of Pine Point, MN, Richard (Oleta) VanMeder of Wisconsin, Melvin Smith of Minneapolis, MN; daughters, Renee Martin of St. Paul, MN, January (Paul) Bohling of Aberdeen, SD, LuAnn Smith of Seattle, WA, Sharon Smith of Bemidji, MN, Lorelei Robinson of Blooming Prairie, MN, Leah Olson of Austin, MN; numerous grand, great-grand and great great- grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Melvin “Ole” Boswell of Minneapolis, MN. In addition to her husband, Lucelia was preceded in death by two sons, Roger and Steven; her parents; brothers, Cyral Howard, Clifford, John, Fred and Bill Boswell; and sisters, Evelyn Leitheiser, Anna Goodman, Myrtle Thompson, Agnes, Rose and Katherine.
