Lyle J. Bunnis, 64, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Friday, May 22 at 308 W. Union Street in Detroit Lakes under the care of Hospice of The Red River Valley. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 27 at Bakke Lutheran Church, rural Detroit Lakes, Reverend Greg Anderson, officiating. Interment will be in Bakke Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 26 at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes and at the church one hour prior to the service.
Lyle John Bunnis was born July 9, 1944 in Detroit Lakes to John and Elsie (Johnson) Bunnis. He was raised and educated in Detroit Lakes. He attended the Detroit Lakes Business College 1962 – 1964. Lyle was united in marriage with Karen Knutson in October, 1966 in Detroit Lakes. They later divorced. During his working life, he worked for Kandt Motors, Norseman Motors, was a welder at Marine Innovations, operated his own truck line and owned and operated a service station on the north side of Detroit Lakes.
Lyle enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, motorcycling, snowmobiling, auto sales, tinkering, hunting, picking mushrooms and his dogs, Snickers, Carmello and Sparky.
Survivors include four sons, Scott, Mark (Kyla), Daniel (Jane) and Chris (Jessica) all of Detroit Lakes; ten grandchildren, Angel, Nicholas, Brian, Brandon, Caden, Damon, Blake, Kylie, Alysa and Logan; and his special friend, DeAnn McWethy of Detroit Lakes. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Vern.
