The amazing Mae (Mabel H. Kyte) had her "parting" day and went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 21, 2011. She was 95. Mae was surrounded by her children, by those she cared for, and by the wonderful women who cared for her at The Diamond Willow Assisted Living of Detroit Lakes. Mabel (Mae) Harriet Engle was born on October 16, 1915 to William and Edith Engle in Cathay, ND. She was one of ten children. Mae was raised and attended school in Carrington, ND. As a child, she loved school, ice skating, playing baseball, and won many awards for her beautiful penmanship. She married James Emmett Kyte on December 22, 1932 in Carrington. They made their home there until moving to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1936. They resided there until 1958 when they made their final move to Frazee, MN. They raised six children. Mae attended the Frazee United Methodist Church and taught release time & vacation bible school. She loved decorating the church for holidays, flower shows, and weddings. She was active in the Esther Circle and the United Methodist Women until age forced her to retire. In her earlier years, Mae worked for the Frazee Dime Store and for Paintin' Place. She loved to entertain, host and attend tea parties, and dig in the dirt in her garden. She was an excellent seamstress and created beautiful items for her family and home, and award winning costumes for her children. She was famous for her chokecherry jelly, molasses cookies, and her special tea-rings she baked at Christmas. The color red was her trademark. She loved to read, work crossword puzzles, listen to music, and sing along with the radio. She didn't do anything or go anywhere without her red lipstick on. Her favorite time was anytime she was surrounded by her family and she prayed for them daily. She will be greatly missed. She leaves behind six children: Richard of Frazee, Judy (Dovie) Raye of Detroit Lakes, James (Carolyn) of Perham, Sue Perszyk of Perham, Vicki Boedigheimer of Richwood, and Robbie (Allan) Schoenberger of Richwood, two "adopted" children: Glen Olson of Hopkins, MN and Debbie Needham of Detroit Lakes, Twelve grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, ten great- great-grandchildren, sisters Shirley Nielson of Albert Lea, Mn, Betty White of Carrington, ND, several nieces and nephews, including her favorite person in the world, her neice Nancy Knapp of Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 54 years, James Emmett Kyte, brothers Gordon, William, Floyd, & Manley Engle, sisters Leone Ross, Gladys Rhodes, & Madeline Blackburn and son-in-law Robert (Bob) Perszyk of Perham.
