Manley Elaf Nelson, age 76, of Perham, MN, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, January 10, 2016, at Sanford Health Hospital in Fargo, ND, after a brief illness. No services are scheduled as per Manley's wishes. Manley was born on October 9, 1940, to Magnus and Agnes (French) Nelson, in Shell Lake Township near Ponsford, MN. He grew up in Ponsford and attended school in Frazee. On July 11, 1994, he was married to Betty Hyatt. Manley worked most of his life in construction. Manley was a jack-of-all-trades and was known for his skills as a handyman. In retirement, he was an avid reader and loved Western novels. He also enjoyed watching wrestling, boxing, and his animals. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Betty; sons: Michael Nelson of Rochert, Tony Nelson of Detroit Lakes, Joe of Rochert, and Jeremy Blaine Nelson of Detroit Lakes; daughters: Jamie Bunnell of Detroit Lakes, Megan Morrison of Detroit Lakes, Angel Nelson of Grand Forks, ND, and Renee Houske of Thief River Falls; step-children, Andrew (Bonnie) Harness of Baudette, and Karen (Kirk) Hanson of Frazee; two sisters, Alice of Brainerd, and Elda Nelson of Adrian; a brother Doug Nelson of Detroit Lakes; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Magnus and Agnes; two children, Tammy Nelson, and Manley Nelson Junior; sisters: Mary Ritz, Carrie Cartwright, Maude Maves, and Isabelle.
