Margaret Mayfield, 90 of Detroit Lakes, MN, died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Emmanuel-Ecumen Nursing Home. A small gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday, January 17 at 2PM in David Donehower Funeral Home. A Memorial Service with burial will take place later in the spring at Central Lutheran Church, Pelican Rapids, MN.
Margaret was born August 4, 1924 at Pelican Rapids, MN to Frank and Caroline (Herting) Ohman. She was confirmed and married at the Loon Lake parsonage in Vergas. She attended grade school at District 98. On November 21, 1943, Margaret was united in marriage to Raymond Olson of Pelican Rapids. To this union were born two children: JoAnn and Kenneth. Margaret worked at B&L Café in Pelican Rapids until they moved to Detroit Lakes in 1965. While living in Detroit Lakes she was employed at Swift's Turkey Plant for 29 ½ years, retiring in 1985. Raymond passed away November 2, 1982. In 1984, Margaret was united in marriage to Clarence Mayfield. Clarence passed away in 2001. Margaret loved to cook and bake and enjoyed having neighbors over for coffee and a visit. She always believed she had the best neighbors in town.
Margaret is survived by one son: Kenneth Olson of Phoenix, AZ, six grandchildren: Scott (Kathy) Johnson, Vikki Johnson, Darin (Jodie) Johnson, Nicole (Roy) Mass, Travis Olson and Stacey (Brian) Lamontagne. In addition she is survived by nine great-grandchildren, one brother-in-law: Wilbur Hegerle, and one step-daughter: Carol Nordgren of New Mexico.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 1st husband Raymond, 2nd husband Clarence, one daughter: JoAnn, one brother: Fernard Ohman, three sisters: Berneice Aschnewitz, Marlys Hegerle and Dorraine Boushley, and three step-children: Leonard Mayfield, Sylvia Siedel and Doris Miller.
In keeping with Margaret's wishes, she has been cremated and will be buried at Central Lutheran Church Cemetery near Pelican Rapids, MN.
