Margaret Reed

Margaret R. "Margie" Reed, 90, a resident of Pelican Lake, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 in Wheaton, MN. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, May 24th at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Frazee. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at Holy Rosary Church. Margaret Reed was born October 4, 1921 in Frazee, MN to Ray and Jessie (Randall) Rasmussen. She is a 1938 graduate of Frazee High School and then attended Moorhead State Teachers College in Moorhead, MN. She taught in rural Becker County Schools for three years, Sheridan, OR for two years, Frazee for one year and Sauk Centre for one year. Margie was united in marriage to John H. "Jack" Reed, June 6, 1947 in Sauk Centre, MN. They made their home in St. Paul, MN where she taught at Chelsea Heights School for 30 years. She retired in 1977 and, following Jack's retirement in 1978, they purchased a retirement home in Pompano Beach, FL and spent six months in Florida and six months at Pelican Lake in rural Pelican Rapids. Jack died October 24, 2011. Margie enjoyed playing cards, board games, time at the lake and traveling. She had a gift for hospitality and welcomed people into her home. To her young nieces and nephew, she was known as "Gigi". Survivors include brothers-in-law: Ralph Herbst of Moorhead, MN; Frank (Vivian) Reed of Savage, MT and Joe (Diane) Reed of Pierre, SD, several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a sister: Eva Rae Herbst.
