Marie Kent

Marie R. Kent, Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Waubun and Ogema, MN, died Friday at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema, MN. Interment will be in Most Holt Redeemer Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Ogema. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the mass at the church on Wednesday. Marie Rose Kent was born September 2, 1922 in Aitkin, MN to Joseph and Rose (Miller) Gaynor. She moved to Ogema, MN with her family as a young woman where she worked in her parents restaurant. Marie was united in marriage to Richard Kent, June 23, 1942 in White Earth, MN. They farmed in the Ogema-Waubun area and Marie worked as a waitress at the Erie Jr. restaurant in Detroit Lakes and then at the Red Apple Café in Mahnomen, MN. She also worked at the Ogema Liquor Store in Ogema, MN. Richard died in 1990. In her later years, Marie took great pride in taking care of her grandchildren. She moved to Waubun in 1999 and to Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes in 2009. Marie enjoyed time with her grandchildren, quilting, doing crafts for her church, gardening and raising flowers, cooking and baking. Survivors include four sons and three daughters: Richard Jr. (Susan) of Waubun, MN, Vincent (Cheryl) of Belgrade, MN, Dean (Kathy) of Annandale, MN, Duane of Bagley, MN, Mary (Donald) Neitzke of Wahpeton, ND, Yvonne (Joseph) Walsh of Fridley, MN, Wanda (David) Reidberger of Rockford, MN, 24 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter. In addition to her husband, Richard, she was preceded in death by two daughters: Shirley Kent and Joyce Morrison, sons: Edward, Errol, Virgil and an infant son, a daughter-in-law (Virgil's wife) Kathy, a granddaughter: Theresa Kent six sisters: Beatrice, Frances, Jeanette, Joanne and Carol.
