Marjorie Bergquist

Marjorie Catherine Stillinger was born September 28, 1922 in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Dick and Connie (Dickinson) Stillinger. Marge along with her two brothers were raised and educated, graduating from High School in Winnipeg. After high school, Marge began working at a large retail store, T. Eaton Company. She later completed a secretarial course and went on to work for a lumber wholesale company. After a little job searching, Marge accepted a position with the American Consulate General in Winnipeg, interviewing applicants for visas for their travel abroad. Marge often visited her aunt and uncle who lived in Detroit Lakes and it was then, she met Cecil Bergquist. On September 30, 1950, Marge and Cecil were united in marriage. From 1950-1952, Marge worked for Standard Oil Pipeline in Moorhead while Cecil drove truck for Consolidated Freightways. In 1952 they purchased her aunt and uncle's farm and permanently made Detroit Lakes their residence in 1957. In 1967 they were chosen as Valley Farmer and Homemaker of Becker County. An accomplishment they were truly proud of. Over the years, Marge selflessly volunteered her time. She was a 4-H leader, Sunday School teacher, treasurer for Ladies Aid, deliverer of Meals on Wheels and other various events with Emmanuel Nursing Home. She also sold advertising for the Becker County Fair Association, participated with the Homemakers Club and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority. For over 38 years, Marge worked part-time for a company out of New York called Audits and Surveys, retiring in 2004. In 1996, Marge was chosen as Outstanding Senior Citizen of Becker County, an honor she was very proud of. In September of 2010, Marge and Cecil celebrated 60 years of marriage. In Marge's words "We had lots of fun!", they enjoyed square dancing, Norwegian dance, playing cards, curling, cross country skiing, bowling, traveling and entertaining family and friends. On October 23, 2010, Cecil passed away. Marge moved into Madison assisted living in December 2010. Marge enjoyed keeping busy. She loved tending to her gardens, canning, painting and visiting with her many friends made over the years. She cherished the annual trips to Winnipeg visiting extended family and the trip to Stillinger Lake in northern Manitoba, named in memory of her brother Bud who was killed during WWII.

Marge is survived by her children: Brad (Shirley) Bergquist of Detroit Lake and Lori (Art) Bjorkman of Afton, MN along with five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and 22 Godchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Cecil (2010), brothers: Bud and Dick Stillinger.
