Mark Bennett Kenyon, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2025, surrounded by his loving family at his home, with the compassionate care of Red River Valley Hospice.
Born on May 9, 1939, to Dell and Louise Kenyon, Mark spent his early years in Fergus Falls before moving to Maplewood Township with his parents. On May 28, 1960, he married the love of his life, Vonnie, and together they built a beautiful family, welcoming six children into their lives. While they spent a few years in Minneapolis, where Mark worked at Ramsdell Tire Company, they eventually returned to the Maplewood area, allowing Mark to pursue a fulfilling career in construction until health challenges led him to retire.
Mark was truly a man of the outdoors; he had a profound love for fishing, particularly ice spearing, and enjoyed hunting. These activities were not just hobbies for him; they were integral to his way of life, reflecting his appreciation for nature and the joy of sharing meals sourced from his own endeavors.
In addition to his outdoor passions, Mark and Vonnie cherished their time together on road trips, exploring the beauty of the North and West, whether for a weekend or a week-long adventure. Each journey was a new opportunity for memories and connection.
Amidst life’s many twists and turns, Mark found solace and purpose through his faith. He was baptized in September 2004 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a testament to his spiritual journey.
Mark leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by his cherished wife, Vonnie; their children: Cheryl (Parrish) Nelson, David, Clint (Mari), and Matthew; and his beloved grandchildren: Jasmine, Brady, Brittney, Erik, Daniel, Tania, Aliza, and Daniel A. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Makala, Donald, Elsa, Alysa, Owen, Sophia, Red, Cole, Kearny, Hudson, and Nekoda. Mark's siblings, Gene and Mary (Bob) Walz, also carry on his memory.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dell and Louise Kenyon; in-laws, Henry and Thelma Splittgerber; infant son, Craig Steven; son, Patrick Neil; grandson, Bennett Nelson; and brothers, Glen, Jim, and Daniel.
As we remember Mark, let us celebrate a life lived with passion, love, and kindness. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 18025 Willow Springs Road, Detroit Lakes. The family invites you to join them for a reception, immediately following the service, at the Holiday Inn, Detroit Lakes, in the Fireplace Lounge.
