Mark Anthony Stalberger, 56, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by his girls and under the care of Hospice.
Mark was born April 27, 1964 to Arthur and Reine (Kaiser) Stalberger in Detroit Lakes, MN. He grew up on a dairy farm south west of Ogema, MN and graduated from Waubun High School in 1982. After trying out a few different career opportunities, in February 1992 Mark started working for the United States Postal Service as a substitute rural mail carrier. He also drove school bus for the Lake Park/Audubon School District. In 2002 he obtained a full-time rural mail carrier position with the Lake Park Post Office. His last day delivering mail was October 7, 2020. He loved visiting with his customers and driving the country roads (yes, even in the winter!).
On September 26, 1992 Mark married Kristi Zurn in Detroit Lakes, MN. On July 8, 1993 Mark received his miracle of a liver transplant. In 1996 they moved to Detroit Lakes, where they currently reside. On November 10, 2020 Mark was diagnosed with neuroendocrine tumor cancer. Although he was a fighter, it was a battle he unfortunately could not win. The family would like to thank the amazing medical personnel at Sanford in Detroit Lakes and Fargo and the incredible staff of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Mark’s pride and joy was his 3 beautiful daughters. He would do anything and everything for them – even goofy videos! In 2013 our family was complete when Mark picked our family dog - Milo Maxwell – Mark finally got his boy! He was a farm boy at heart! He loved driving the country roads, watching the crops come up and then be harvested, and watching videos of farming on YouTube. Besides keeping all his girls happy, Mark was also active in Assumption Catholic Church in Callaway, MN and was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus for 32 years. He was also an active member in the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association.
Mark is survived by his wife, Kristi, daughters Kaitlyn, Karlee, and Megan, and his best bud Milo. He is also survived by 6 brothers and 1 sister – Phil (Patti), Tom (JoAnn), Jerry (Joan), Jim (Jean), Paul, Marilyn (Bill) Knudsen, and Pat (Lori) - many nieces and nephews, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Damian and Carol Zurn. He was proceeded in death by his parents.
