Marlene was born on November 03, 1940, to Fred and Edwina (Spaeth) Blattenbauer in Mahnomen, Minnesota. She grew up in Waubun, MN, and graduated from Waubun High School in 1958. Marlene was united in marriage to Albin Scherping on September 20, 1958, and the couple settled down on the family farm; there they raised four daughters, milk cows, chickens, and pigs. Marlene was active on the farm and helped by driving the combine for many years.
Marlene was an active member of the St. Ann’s Ladies Aid and belonged to the Thrifty Homemakers Club. She enjoyed helping students during her 25 years as a paraprofessional at the Waubun School. In 1994 her and Alby moved off the farm and made their home in Detroit Lakes where she was also a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
Marlene enjoyed coffee and conversation with friends at McDonalds. She loved spending warm winters in Arizona and time at the lake in the summer. When she wasn’t doing crossword puzzles, baking, or gardening, you could find her shopping! She adored time with family, visits with her grandkids and snuggling with her great grand babies.
Marlene is survived by her four daughters: Colleen (Bruce) Borgrud of Waubun, MN; Linda Scherping of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lori (Ron) Johnson of Honokaa, HA; and Carrie (Jim) Christenson of Pelican Rapids, MN; brother Ken (Mazie) Blattenbauer of Callaway, MN; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren
