Mary Paulsen

Mary H. Veronen Paulsen, 67, Detroit Lakes, formerly of St. Paul, MN, died Monday, August 18, 2014 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Inver Grove Heights, MN. Friends may call 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Thursday. Mary Hedwig Veronen Paulsen was born September 22, 1946 on Detroit Lakes, MN to Raymond and Arlene (Mack) Veronen. She attended one room schools during grades one through six and then Junior High at the Holmes School, graduating in 1964 from Detroit Lakes High School. She attended business school in Fargo and then moved to St. Paul to work for the Minnesota Department of Human Services in 1965. She retired in 2003 after 38 years of service. Mary married the love of her life, Douglas W. Paulsen, November 12, 1977 at the Ft. Snelling Chapel in St. Paul. They made their home in St. Paul and Cottage Grove prior to moving to Detroit Lakes in 2010 to live with her mother. Doug died June 26, 2014. Mary enjoyed reading, crocheting, trying new recipes and spending time in her camper at the lake with family and friends. She was a Lioness for many years. She was a caring and thoughtful daughter, sister and friend. Mary is survived by her mother, Arlene in the Frazee Care Center, brothers, Jay (Mavis) of Staples, MN, Matthew (Barbara) of Ogema, five nephews, one niece, grand nieces and nephews. Doug's two special nieces, Josette (Mike) Ihrke of St. Paul, MN, Paulette Cloutier of Franklin, NC and special friend, Judy Woods of Newport, MN.
