Maurice Gerald "Ditsy Boy" Jackson, age 82, of Waubun, MN, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2015. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 4, 2016, at the White Earth Community Center in White Earth. A visitation will begin at 4:00 pm on Sunday, January 3 at the White Earth Community Center, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm, and will continue until the time of service on Monday. The burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in White Earth following the service. Maurice was born to Joseph and Jennie (King) Oshkinowe on October 10, 1933 in White Earth, MN. He attended school at Maple Grove School. In his senior year he lied about his age in order to join the U.S. Army; where he served and was twice decorated, with the bronze star, for his service in the Korean War. After returning from the service, he met Myrtle Thompson; together they settled down in Minneapolis and raised 12 children. In 1989 the family returned to White Earth where he resided until his passing. Maurice was an avid fisherman. When his health prevented him from fishing he took to spending time at the casino.
He loved attending Pow Wow's. Maurice was a member of the Ogema V.F.W. He was also a founding member of White Earth Wisdom Steps and enjoyed being in the parades. He was a part of the Community Hearse Project for many years. He was proud to be involved in the construction of the I.D.S building in Minneapolis. Maurice was an active father, grandfather, great grandfather, and great-great grandfather and loved going to school programs and games. He is preceded in death by his life-long partner, Myrtle; his parents, Joseph and Jennie; a son, Elmer; daughters, Carol, Sandy, Laurel, and Cheryl; grandchildren, Alan, Alan Jr., Patrick, Marie, Deshawn, Rebecca, and Gina; sisters, Francis, Margaret, Florence, and Jennie Mae; and brothers, Lawrence, George, and Irvin. He is survived by his children, Gerald, Robert, Melvin, Barb, Bobbi Jo (Dave), Karen, and Joan; a sister, Fern Roy; a brother William Oshkinowe; adopted children, Robert (Jean) Horack, and Rita Rogers; 34 grandchildren, 79 great grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
