Maurice Normandin

Maurice Timothy Normandin of Detroit Lakes passed away at St. Mary's Oak Crossing Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes on Wednesday, February 18, at the age of 87. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly, MN. A visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20 at the David Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. The interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Crookston, MN. Maurice was born on July 26, 1927 to Joseph and Eva (Desgrosiellier) in their home two miles east of Gentilly, Minnesota. He was baptized on July 31, 1927 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly. Maurice grew up on his parent's farm. At the age of 19 he moved to Crookston, Minnesota and started working as an orderly at St. Vincent's Hospital. In 1950 He transferred to the new St. Francis Hospital in Crookston and later became a surgical technician. He married Alice Ann Trudeau on September 2, 1947 at St. Peter's Church in Gentilly with Father John Philip officiating. Maurice and Alice made their home in Crookston for the next 23 years, where they raised a family of five children. In 1970 Maurice was transferred to St. Mary's Hospital and moved to Detroit Lakes; where he continued to work in the surgical area until his retirement on July 31, 1989. Maurice enjoyed reading, traveling and dancing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Eva; children, Rosemary and Michael; brothers, Harvey, Albert, Orphier, and Jerome. He is survived by his wife of 67 year, Alice; daughters, Marilyn (Rod) Amiot of Crookston, and Deb (Lowell) Schlauderaff of Detroit Lakes; a son David (Jean)of East Grand Forks; sisters, Alice (Mark) Carrier of Crookston, and Leah (Lester) Audette of Isanti; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
