Maurice Teiken

Maurice "Boots" S. Teiken, 82, resident of Detroit Lakes, formerly of Ogema, died Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 16 at 11AM in Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, Ogema. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 15 at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church from 5PM until 7PM with a 7PM Prayer Service. Interment will be held at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, rural Ogema.

Maurice Steven Teiken was born September 2, 1931 in Ogema, MN to Henry and Anna (Jasken) Teiken. He attended District 104, a one room country school near Ogema. After his schooling, Boots farmed with his family. On December 9, 1952, he served with the United States Army and was stationed in Alaska. Boots was honorably discharged on November 12, 1954 and came back to Ogema to continue farming with his family. For over 30 years, Boots worked for Sig Olson and Sons doing construction around the area. A job he thoroughly enjoyed. After he retired, he helped his nephews' farm. Boots enjoyed the simple things in life. His short trips to the casino, family reunions, tending to his gardens or sitting down for a friendly game of cards, Boots enjoyed the many conversations and friendships made over the years. For the past three years Boots lived at Emmanuel Community. He enjoyed every minute of his stay there. He made many friends; he loved to tease the staff and enjoyed receiving their attention.

Boots is survived by his brother: Dave Teiken, two sisters: Margaret (Darwin) McArthur and Elaine Hoban (Albert Schouviller), two sister-in-laws: Trula Teiken and Mary Ann Teiken, and one brother-in-law: Louis Trujillo, all of Ogema. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters: Irene Reller, Doris Reller, Francis Brakefield, Marie St. Germain-Lohman, Lorayne Trujillo and four brothers: Joseph, Leonard, Henry and Leo.

Boots family is grateful for the kindness and love shown to them by the staff and friends at Emmanuel Community.
