Merilyn Fischer

Merilyn Louise (Anderson) Fischer, 67, Vergas, MN, died Friday, February 4, 2011 at her daughter's home in Maple Grove, MN surrounded by loved ones. Merilyn was born December 11, 1943 in Harvey, ND the daughter of Emil and Clara (Houglund) Anderson. She was raised in Moorhead, MN and graduated from Moorhead High School. Following high school, she attended Moorhead State University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1965 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1968. For the next three years, she did graduate work at Penn State University in College Station, PA. Merilyn was united in marriage to Floyd Fischer at Trinity Lutheran Church in Moorhead, MN, July 24, 1965. They were blessed with two children, Trudy and Tracy. Merilyn and Floyd resided in Moorhead until 1983 when they moved to the Vergas, MN area. Floyd died in 2000. Merilyn's love of decorating and the arts lead her to a 25 year career as co-owner of the Attic Shoppe, Ltd in Vergas, Minnesota. She was also involved with numerous church and community organizations. She loved traveling and spending time with family and friends. In January, 2009, she became engaged to Rod Middelstaedt of Grand Forks, ND. Merilyn is survived by her daughters: Trudy (Lance) Olson of Edina, MN and Tracy (Derek) Gerasch of Maple Grove, MN; her fiance', Rod Middelsteadt of Grand Forks, ND, grandchildren: Andrew and Sarah Olson, 2 sisters: Linda (Glen) Huebner of Kensington, MN, Mary Ellen Hebert of Moorhead, MN, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces cousins and friends. In addition to her husband, Floyd, Merilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Clara Anderson and brothers: Donald and Glenn Anderson. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 9 at Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake, rural Pelican Rapids, MN. Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM Tuesday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
