Mildred C. Gildersleeve, 93, Rochert, MN, formerly of Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, August 3 at Sanford Health in Fargo. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday, August 8 at the United Church of Christ Congregational Church in Detroit Lakes, Reverend Mark Kuether, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may call 5:00 -7:00 PM Sunday with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at David-Donehower Funeral Home. The visitation will continue 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Mildred Cecelia Gildersleeve was born June 27, 1917 in Highland Grove Township near Hawley, MN to John A. and Cecily (Murphy) Mack. She lived with a number of family members during the depression and is a 1935 graduate of Fargo High School. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo 1936 – 1937 and the Fargo Business College in 1940. She began her working career at NDAC's Agriculture Adjustment Agency in 1938 and eventually supervised a pool of 11 stenographers. Mildred was united in marriage to Thomas Gildersleeve January 30, 1943 in Missouri. Following his discharge from the Army, they returned to Fargo where she worked as a secretary at Roosevelt Elementary School and later at McKinley Elementary. During the summer months, the family spent their time at Round Lake in northern Becker County and later at Cotton Lake near Rochert. In 1969, they moved to Cotton Lake full time. Tom died in 1993. Mildred enjoyed keeping track of where Ladyslipper flowers grew, was an avid bird watcher and feeder, was active in the Cotton Lake Homemakers Club, the Congregational Church, the Cotton Lake Association, playing golf and the aqua aerobics group at the Detroit Lakes Community Center. Survivors include a son: John (Judy) of Rochert; a daughter: Sara (Bill) Wyatt of Long Lake, MN, seven grandchildren: Michael Wyatt, John Gildersleeve, Andrea Rawlings, Diane Florese, Tom Gildersleeve, Christine Gildersleeve, Kris Kacer, 12 great-grand children and two great-great grandchildren, a sister: Mary Jean Stark of Baker, MT. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter: Melissa Wyatt, a brother, Arthur and three sisters: Elaine, Maggie and Margaret. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to "The Friends of Tamarac" at 35704 Co Hwy 26, Rochert, Mn. 56578 or the United Congregational Church of Detroit Lakes.
