Mildred C. “Milli” Oden, 86, of Detroit Lakes and Hopkins, MN, died Monday, July 14 at the New Brighton Care Center in New Brighton, MN. Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Friday, July 18 at the Roseville Memorial Chapel, 1360 Commerce St. at Hamlin Ave., Roseville, MN.
Friends may call at Roseville Memorial Chapel from 4:00 PM until the time of the service on Friday.
Mildred Carolina Rahn was born March 28, 1922 in Rosemount, MN to Albert and Emily (Scherer) Rahn. She was a 1941 graduate of Rosemount High School. Following graduation, Milli moved to Chicago, IL where she was employed with National Tea Company for a short time. She returned to St. Paul and worked for Montgomery Ward 1941 – 1947. Milli was united in marriage to Gordon Oden May 25, 1846 at her mother’s home in St. Paul. Following the birth of their son, Dale in 1947, Milli became a stay-at-home mom. In 1953, they moved to Hopkins, MN where, in the late 1950’s, Milli worked for Harold’s Dress Shop in the Knollwood Shopping Center for four years. She loved being an artist which started when she was a young girl and was a treasured part of her daily life until just prior to her death. Milli was known for her portraitures, landscapes and driftwood paintings. In her later years, much of Milli’s art work centered around angels. In 1949, she painted a portrait of Gov. Luther Youngdahl. Her husband Gordon died in 1986. In 1991, she became a founding member of the One Heart, One Mind Group and traveled throughout the United States and Australia conducting retreats and seminars.
Milli is survived by a son, Dale and his wife, Alice Oden of Shoreview, MN; two grandsons, Patrick and Ross Oden of Shoreview; and a sister, Agnes Hunt of North Branch, MN.
