Nancy Hildenbrand, 72, Detroit Lakes passed away November 29 in her home in Detroit Lakes. Memorial Services will be held Friday, December 4 at 10:30AM in United Methodist Church, Detroit Lakes. Visitation will be held at David Donehower Funeral Home on Thursday, December 3 from 4PM-7PM with a 6:30 PM Prayer Service. Visitation will also continue at the church one hour prior to services on Friday. Interment of ashes will be held in the United Methodist Memorial Gardens. Nancy was the daughter of Reverend Bernard (Muriel) Curtis. She was born in Cooperstown, ND and moved to Enderlin, ND as a baby. Her father was a Methodist minister and over the years she moved with her family to the communities of Drayton, ND, Wapheton, ND and Fargo, ND. Her mother was a home economics teacher. After high school, Nancy attended Moorhead State University for two years and graduated from Minot State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She taught kindergarten in Williston, Fargo and Detroit Lakes for a total of 29 years. Teaching young children was her passion. She loved and adored the kindergarten age. Nancy taught Sunday school at the Methodist church for several years and also served on many boards and committees. Christianity was a great importance in her life. Nancy had a love for horses growing up and spent time on ranches in Montana. You would often find Nancy with a book in her hand. She really enjoyed reading and took part in many book clubs over the years. Nancy was a very happy and loving mother. You would often be greeted with a radiant smile and a warm hug. She loved singing, whether it was traditional church hymns to silly kindergarten songs, she enjoyed them all. She spent her summers at a lake home on Midge Lake near Bemidji, MN called "The Trysting Place" with her family which was a vital part of Nancy's life. Nancy is survived by her husband and best friend, Greg and their three children: Drew (Lori) Hildenbrand of Bemidji, MN, Tiffany (Erik) Danger of Chico, CA and Chelsea Hildenbrand of Minneapolis, MN along with nine grandchildren: Brooke, Lindsey, Kate, Jack, Luke, Devon, Cole, Jackson and C.J. Her children and grandchildren were the great loves of her life. Nancy is also survived by one brother: David (Cindy) Curtis and one sister: Linda (Gene) Cuneo. Nancy was the heart and soul of her family. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister: Virginia Hoganson. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Rossman Elementary Public School in Detroit Lakes.
