Nancy Louise Moulden (nee Bliss) was born on October 27, 1941, in El Dorado, Kansas. She passed away on September 22, 2023, at Essentia Health - St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Nancy was a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to teaching – in the elementary school classroom, in crafting workshops, at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge – and touched countless lives.
Nancy Louise was born on October 27, 1941, the daughter of Fred and Sally Bliss in El Dorado, Kansas. She grew up and attended high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Afterward, she enrolled at Central State College in Edmond, Oklahoma, graduating in 1965 in elementary education. Nancy’s teaching career began in Kansas City, Kansas, where she worked in the Overland Park School District. In 1968, she moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota, before settling in Detroit Lakes in 1970.
In Detroit Lakes, Nancy taught at Lincoln, Callaway, and Roosevelt schools, leaving an indelible impact on her students. Many of them fondly remember her as their favorite teacher despite her strict demeanor. The respect she commanded was a testament to her dedication and commitment to shaping young minds.
Beyond the classroom walls, Nancy had a vibrant personality and myriad interests. One of her passions was creating elaborate greeting cards for everyone she knew on every occasion in their lives—birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and more—a testament to her thoughtfulness and creativity. She also found solace in nature and animals—spending significant time volunteering at Tamarac, the Humane Society of the Lakes, and the Cormorant Lake Sportsman’s Club.
While Nancy enjoyed traveling to France to visit her son and frequently visiting her sister in Florida, she was ultimately a homebody who cherished quiet moments surrounded by nature’s beauty alongside her beloved animals. Nancy’s generosity knew no bounds; she dedicated both her time and financial resources generously, especially when it came to supporting her family. She was a pillar of strength and unwavering support to her relatives, always ready with an open heart and a helping hand.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Sally Bliss. She is survived by her loving family: her daughter Kelly (Monty) Hoefflin of Saint Paul, MN, and their four children: Callie, Jesse, Evan, and Cody; her son Lance (Charlotte Sanpere) Godard of Cleveland Heights, OH, and their two children, Remi and Juliette, and her sister Sally (Steve Wallace) Wilson of Land o’ Lakes, FL, and her two children Laura and Christopher. With three great-grandchildren, three great-grandnieces, and one great-grandnephew, Nancy’s legacy lives on through the love and memories shared by her extended family.
