Norbert Ditterick, Sr., 89, of Detroit Lakes a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother and friend went home to the Lord Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Friday, October 16 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes with Msgr. Tim McGee officiating. Interment will be in St. Henry’s Cemetery, Perham, MN. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM with a Prayer Service from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, October 15 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and will continue one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Friday.
Norb was born to Frank and Helena (Dietlein) Ditterick in Perham, MN and graduated from Perham high school. In 1941 Norb married Lucille Scheidecker and lived in Perham until 1959 when they moved to Detroit Lakes. In 1943 Norb was drafted into the Army and served until the end of World War II. After the war Norb went to work for a local company, Wilcox Lumber, and managed five lumber yards and then became the district manager of their 18 lumber yards. Wilcox Lumber was later sold to Peavey Lumber Co. and Norb retired in 1983.
Norb had a few hobbies. He enjoyed reading, playing cards, fishing, traveling and automobiles; his favorite autos were the General Motors vehicles.
Norb is survived by one son, Norbert (Rose) Ditterick of Lake Park, MN; four daughters: Patricia Decowski of Blaine, MN, Judith (Pat) Schmidt of Sioux Falls, SD, January (Mark) Ditterick-Gerdes of Detroit Lakes and Cynthia (Steve) Kinnunen of Detroit Lakes; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Linda Ditterick of Detroit Lakes. He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Lucille and son, John.
