Norma Aileen Holcomb was born September 17, 1921 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Herbert and Nellie (Huston) Holcomb. She attended District 20 country school, Detroit Lakes High School (Class of 1939) and continued her education at the Detroit Lakes Business College. In 1940 she moved to Washington D.C. where she was employed by the United States Surgeon General. Norma was united in marriage to Clinton "Doug" Sandin, February 14, 1942 in Washington, D. C. When Doug entered the Army, Norma returned to Detroit Lakes and following his discharge in 1946 they both returned to the East Coast and were once again employed by the federal government. In 1949 they returned to Detroit Lakes and in 1957 Norma went to work at KDLM Radio. Norma began broadcasting with her show "Meet Norma" and originated the "Hodge-Podge" show which continues today. Through out the years, and after her retirement in 1986 from KDLM, Norma enjoyed serving the community as a Blue Bird and Campfire Girl Leader, Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, first woman Toastmaster, Board member of the Chamber of Commerce, active member of the First Lutheran Church, volunteer tax preparer for seniors and 15 years as a Board of Director of the MAHUBE Council. While radio remained a love of hers, she also enjoyed serving as a tour guide with Lake Region Travel, golf in the summer and bowling in the winter. Even with her career and busy life, Norma's family always came first and she was very proud of her daughters and six grandchildren.
Norma is survived by 3 daughters: Catherine and husband, Roger Mackner of Barnesville, Patty Sandin of Roseville and Donna and husband, Rollie Greeno of Apple Valley,6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, a brother, Boyd and his wife, Evelyn Holcomb of Fargo. In addition to her husband Doug (2002), she was preceded in death by a son, Jerome and 2 sisters, Cathalene Nedberge and Leila Dodge.
