Norman A. Nelson, 82, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday, November 14 at Oak Crossing. A private family service is being planned. Interment will be in the Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery in rural Detroit Lakes.
Norman Arthur Nelson was born February 15, 1938 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Harry and Bertha (Anderson) Nelson. He attended the Seventh Day Adventist Academy in Hutchinson, MN, The Wahpeton (ND) School of Science and served with the U. S. Army. During his service with the Army, he was a corpsman for two years at Walter Reed Military Hospital in Washington, D.C. During his working life, he worked as an auto mechanic in the Detroit Lakes area including years at Rodewald’s Repair, Nereson Automotive and Swanson’s Repair. While at Nereson’s, he earned the rating of a Transmission Specialist.
Norman had a giving heart and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed visiting with his friends at the V.F.W. and at the Northside Liquor Store. He always enjoyed hearing and telling a good joke.
Survivors include his life partner, Diane Ericson and her son, Craig of Detroit Lakes, 2 daughters: Kimberly Sandberg (Jerome Fingalson) of Detroit Lakes, Heidi (Ed) Orner of Schertz, TX, a Brother, Wesley Nelson of Detroit Lakes, 5 Grandchildren, Brandon Sandberg (Krystal Reimer), Bradley Sandberg, Ashley (Tony) Olgeirson, David Orner, Sarah (Jason) Perrone, 9 Great-Grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey, Riley Sandberg, Harley & Zander Hudson, Lilah, Josie, Breanna & Selma Sandberg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister-in-law, Blanche Nelson and a Great-Grandson, Jameson Olgeirson.
