Norman Ardell Refsland, known as Bud, was born July 30, 1925 in Renville, MN to George and Thea (Helgeson) Refsland. He was raised and educated near Sacred Heart, MN. He served with the U. S. Army from February, 1945 to December, 1946, spending most of his time in Okinowa. Following his discharge, he lived briefly in the Twin Cities prior to returning to rural Sacred Heart. Bud was united in marriage to Marvolyn Butenhoff, March 7, 1948 near Renville. They farmed near Danube, MN until 1975. He then worked for the Southern Minnesota Sugar Beet Plant in Renville for several years. They moved to Lake Lida near Vergas, MN. where they operated Refsland?s North Shore Resort 1981 ? 1994. They moved into Vergas in 1994.
Bud enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include his wife, Marvolyn of Vergas, MN, sons: Bradly and his wife, Rosemary McGuire of Detroit Lakes, Steven and his wife, Marilyn of Carbondale, CO, Gene of Glenwood, CO, Dale and his wife, Cheryl of Park Rapids, MN, a daughter, Karen and her husband, Mark Neu of Pelican Rapids, MN, 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, a sister, Marilyn and her husband, Harry Zimmer of Raymond, MN. Bud was preceded in death a grandson, Derek Refsland, his parents and a brother, Gordon.
