Oma L. Grove, 102, Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Jackson and Adrian, MN, died Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes.
Oma Leone Grove was born March 29, 1912 in Adair County, rural Dexter, Iowa to James "Ben" and Mamie (Junkin) Tate. She moved with her family to Jackson County, MN as a young girl. She is a 1930 graduate of Jackson High School and a 1932 graduate of Jackson Normal School. For the next two years, she taught in rural Jackson County Schools. Oma was united in marriage to Donald Grove, at the Lakefield Methodist Parsonage, Lakefield, MN in 1934. They farmed in the Jackson area until moving to Adrian in 1947. After they raised their family, Oma worked at the Arnold Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home in Adrian. Don died in 2002. In 2006, to be closer to her family, she moved to assisted living in Lamplighter Manor in Detroit Lakes. She entered Emmanuel Nursing Home in September of this year. Oma enjoyed all forms of hand crafts, especially crocheting and tatting. She also enjoyed playing computer games, reading, being active in her church, working in the greenhouse and the Minnesota Twins. Survivors include three daughters: Dona Mae (Walt) Luneburg of Detroit Lakes, MN, Roberta (Don) Hartog of Frazee, MN, Janet (Duane) Graf of Huntley, IL, 14 grandchildren, 29 great-grand children and 13 great-great-grandchildren, a brother: Dr. Wayne Tate of South St. Paul, MN and a sister: Greta Mae Hendricks of Burnsville, MN. In addition to her husband of 66 years, Don, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Johnson.
