Patrick J. Gaffney, 67, Detroit Lakes, MN, died Saturday,
December 7, 2013 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
Patrick James Gaffney was born December 3, 1946 in Hawley, MN to Donald and Lucille (Sauer) Gaffney. His family lived in Rollag and later moved to Fargo, ND where he attended area schools. Patrick was united in marriage to Rosalie Alm January 13, 1968 in Fargo, ND. where they lived for a time before moving to Kansas, Christine, ND and then moving to Detroit Lakes in 1983. He worked at Fargo Tire for many years and for different construction companies in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He worked for Frank Hanson Construction in Detroit Lakes before becoming an independent contractor, which he did for 10 years until his health forced him to retire in 2009. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, black labs, listening to Elvis Presley, watching NASCAR races and old cars. He recently purchased a 1961 Chevy Impala Bubbletop that he was looking forward to restoring. Most of all, he enjoyed his grandchildren. Survivors include four daughters: Dawn (Scott) Leegard of Detroit Lakes, Lynette (Mike) Erickson of Audubon, MN, Patricia Goltz of Detroit Lakes, Heather (Travis) Perrine of Frazee, MN, 12 grandchildren, Blake, Ashley, Hunter, Meghan, Ryan, Sydney, Brendan, Casey, Bracston, Brynn, Taylor and Madilyn, three sisters: Cecelia Piper of Savage, MN, Mary "Paulie" Gaffney and Jennifer (Roger) Stein both of Fargo, ND and his special friend, Virginia Sonnenberg of Vergas, MN.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Rose, his parents, brothers Richard and John a sister, Kathleen and his beloved Black Lab, Dugan.
