Patrick Reem

November 23, 1964 — July 5, 2013

Patrick was born on November 23, 1964, in Canby, MN to the late Ben Reem and Martha (Lee) Reem. He spent most of his childhood in Mandan, ND, graduating from Mandan Senior High School in 1983. Some of his happiest years were spent in college where he received a BS in Business Administration from Dickinson State University in 1987. He was employed in the grocery industry for most of his adult life, working for Dan's Super Markets in Bismarck for many of those years. He moved to Detroit Lakes in November 2010 and his most recent employment was with the Boy's and Girl's Club Thrift Store and More in Detroit Lakes, MN. Although he worked there for only 15 months, he said it was the best and most rewarding job of his life. One of Pat's fondest memories was that of being the Student Manager for the Mandan Braves basketball team when they won the state championship in 1981. He participated in numerous fantasy sports leagues over the years and was a trivia buff, excelling in sports, geography, movies, and classic rock. He watched Jeopardy up until the very end and could answer most of the questions. He also took first place numerous times in nationwide bar trivia competitions. If you were playing any sort of trivia game, you wanted to be on Pat's team! He had an extensive CD collection and a night spent listening to music with Patrick could include anything from Mozart to Slayer and everything in between. Although very unassuming for the most part, Pat liked to say he "was dipped in awesome sauce at birth." His quick-wit and humor were unsurpassed and he spoke sarcasm as a second language. Patrick loved to eat and he never met a burger he didn't like! He also never met a cat he didn't like and was the proud parent of several cats over the years. He was a huge Vikings, Twins, and Bismarck Bobcats hockey fan and knew just about every statistic possible about the teams as well as the players. Patrick was very matter-of-fact about his devastating diagnosis saying "it is what it is". He faced it very stoically and with courage, being more concerned about his loved ones who cared for him than about himself. If you asked him how he was doing over the past few weeks he would have told you he was "hanging tough." The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the wonderful caregivers of Hospice of the Red River Valley for their compassion and tender loving care. Patrick looked forward to their visits and enjoyed the pampering he received. He will be greatly missed by those who were blessed to have shared his life. His mother, Martha Reem, Detroit Lakes; sisters, Melody Kruckenberg, Detroit Lakes and Brenda (Donald) Wheelock, Inkom, ID. Six nephews, Dr. Nathan Wilson (Dr. Julia Polito), Moscow, ID; Keith Kruckenberg, Aberdeen, SD; Scott Kruckenberg, Mandan, ND; Matthew Wheelock, Cle Elum, WA; Andrew (Monica) Wheelock, Dulluth, GA; and Jonathan Wheelock, Silverdale, WA. One great-niece; Madeline Wilson, Moscow, ID. His best buddy, Ralph Packulak, his cat, Teemu, one aunt; Marjorie Voltz, Detroit Lakes, several cousins, and numerous friends. Patrick was preceded in death by his father, Ben Reem; several aunts and uncles; his grandparents, Charles and Emily Reem and Norman and Rose Lee, all of Aitkin, MN. Patrick requested that donations be made to the Boy's and Girl's Club of Detroit Lakes or to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
