Peter Wayne Hanks

Peter Wayne Hanks, 69, of Mahnomen, MN passed away peacefully at home on July 12, 2024, surrounded by his sisters and under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Peter was born July 6, 1955, to George and Audrey (Bellanger) Hanks. He was lovingly cared for by his parents until their deaths and in 1984 he moved in with his sister Joyce HighElk, her husband Rod and their family. Peter attended Mahnomen DAC, where he held a variety of jobs including dusting at the Mahnomen Liquor Store, cleaning at the Mahnomen Bingo Hall and Mahnomen Laundromat. After Joyce and Rod’s death in 2021, Peter moved into Lakes Homes-Mahnomen. He enjoyed bowling back in the day. He loved the Minnesota Vikings and receiving MN Vikings gear. He liked flirting with the ladies, hugs, dancing and his stuffed animals. He especially enjoyed social events such as pow wow’s, parades and family dinners. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino. Peter was baptized on July 12, 2024.

Peter is survived by his sisters: Barbara Hanks of White Earth, MN, Donna Mae (Bobby) Hanks of Minneapolis, MN, Patricia Hanks of Minneapolis, MN, Darlene Hanks of White Earth, MN; and all of his nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents: George and Audrey Hanks; siblings: Marvin Hanks, Dennis Hanks, Sherald Hanks, Clifford Hanks, Joyce HighElk, Dale Hanks and Gloria Grandbois.

A special thank you to Lauri and staff at Lakes Homes-Mahnomen, where he received exceptional loving care in his final years.

Memorial Service for Peter will be held 10am, Thursday, July 18 at St. Columba Episcopal Church in White Earth, MN, with visitation one-hour prior.
