Phyllis Marilyn Libby was born November 21, 1949 in Grand Forks, ND to Herbert and Thelma (Thompson) Libby. She attended the White Earth Mission School and Waubun (MN) High School. She worked as a bar tender in Las Vegas, NV for four years. Phyllis was trained in business management and then moved to Tulsa, OK where she operated her own business for four years. She returned to White Earth, MN where, following the death of her mother, she became the care giver and “mother-figure” to her brothers and sisters.. Phyllis was a nation-wide traveler and bead work artist. She was active with the Anishinabeg Akeen and the Indigenous Womens Group.
Survivors include a son, Michael of White Earth; two granddaughters, Brittini Amber Libby of Minneapolis, MN, Joridan Lynn Libby of N. Fargo, ND; two sisters, Mary (Zeb) Shaugabay of Warroad, MN, Janis Parisian of Elbow Lake Village (rural Waubun), MN; seven brothers, Jerry (Sis), Tom (Jean), Jim (Bev) Sr. and George Sr. all of Ogema,
Gene (Sandy) of White Earth, Bob (Sharon) Sr. of Elk River, MN, Bill Sr. of Faribault, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Gloria, Carol and Lola and a brother, Richard.
