Raymond was born August 12, 1928 in McHenry, North Dakota to Ernest and Leona (Henning) Halvorson. He was raised and educated in Glenfield, ND graduating from Glenfield High School in 1946. After school, Raymond enlisted into the United States Army and stationed in Italy. He was honorably discharged on March 26, 1948. He returned home and was united in marriage to Betty Lou Posey in Fargo, ND on July 2, 1949. They resided in Fargo until Raymond took a job with Northwestern Bell. They moved to various communities that Raymond’s work required. In 1967, Raymond was promoted to superintendent of operations and they resided in Fergus Falls. Raymond retired in 1983. They moved to their lake home on Silver Lake near Battle Lake, MN where they spent their summers and during the winter lived in Arizona. In 1993, they moved to Detroit Lakes. Betty passed away on October 9, 2000.
Raymond loved hunting and fishing, he enjoyed their annual trips to Laughlin, NV during the winter months. He had a passion for history, especially World War I memorabilia and had a wide array of coins that he collected over the years.
Raymond will be remembered and missed by his daughters; Raeleen Lohse of Fergus Falls, MN, Roberta (Brad) Johnson of Globe, AZ and son Rick Halvorson of Detroit Lakes, MN. He will also be remembered by his four grandchildren; Kristi Lohse of Woodridge, IL, Kori (Jesse) Eastman of Prior Lake, MN, Amy Johnson of Globe, AZ and Scott Johnson of Globe, AZ along with seven great grandchildren and one step brother; Ted (Linda) Johnson of Glenfield, ND.
He is preceded in death by his parents and wife Betty.
